Ukrainian scenario not possible in Belarus - Lukashenko
ItarTass: The Belarusian president said "the impotence of the authorities, corruption, economic collapse, and external intrigues delivered a historical tragedy to the Ukrainian people"
MINSK, May 09. /ITAR-TASS/. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said the Ukrainian scenario will not happen in Belarus. "I'm confident that the Ukrainian scenario will not recur in Belarus. A token of it is our people's wisdom and patriotism," Lukashenko said at a wreath-laying ceremony on the occasion of Victory Day on Friday.
"Today, Ukraine, a close and dear country to us, has become a conflict area. The impotence of the authorities, corruption, economic collapse, and external intrigues delivered a historical tragedy to the Ukrainian people," the president said adding that it immediately attracted people wishing to exploit the situation.
"The sanguinary drama of the Ukrainian people became a pretext for NATO's advance to the borders of Belarus and Russia," he went on.
He underlined that many people in the world were forgetting history lessons and that some states were trying to affirm the right of the strong in the world. "We remember the smashed Yugoslavia, the burning Iraq and the ravaged Libya," Lukashenko said.
History does not let one relax; and today, the nation needs to stand as one, be mobilized and be strong in spirit, he added.
"Anyone who will wish to conquer our land will meet with a rebuff. Our army and all law-enforcement bodies are ready anytime to defend the country's sovereignty and civil peace from encroachments from outside and from within," the Belarusian leader said.
